If you are looking to adopt a great fun dog, with a fabulous personality, Bjorn is it! He is incredibly endearing, engaged, intelligent and always looks on the bright side of life, he truly is an incredible dog. Not to mention he has the best smile and looks on his side. He does get noticed when out and about. He is a cross breed with potentially some anatolian shelpherd which gives him a majestic air. He is a firm favourite in the team, and suprisingly even for some who tend to prefer small dogs!
Given his size, he is looking for a home with solid experience. He is a powerful boy and requires someone used to handling big dogs. He is very connected to his people and loves to please them, however can get reactive to certain men, when lead walking. His family will need to be aware of this and manage his interraction whilst out on a walk. He is not a dog who will likely be able to be off lead in public and would bebefit from access to perhaps more rural areas. The most important thing for Bjorn is to have his people though, and some socialisition with other dogs which he loves. He is actually really brilliant with dogs of all sizes, and he often helps with bringing on dogs that are more anxious. He has the patience of a saint with all the little ones who like jumping all over him, a real sweetie.
He practices agility and obedience and is motivated by getting it right and pleasing his people, more so than by food. He is a really lovely dog who will need someone interested in investing in him mentally and physically. He is the kind of dog who will appeal to people' whose lives
revolve around their dog and dog activities.
He does need to be on a grain free diet as he can have sensitive skin otherwise. He has recently been in a home for a few months, where he did brilliantly but unfortunately the resident dog did not get used to another dog eventhough Bjorn was the perfect gentleman, so sadly he had to come back. In evey other way he was a really wonderful dog on his home trial. Since his return we have had to put him on allergy tablets though as his skin had become a little irritated in some patches whilst in the home, but it could have been due to some underlying stress and we will hopefully be back to just using the grain free diet very soon.
Bjorn has huge potential, as he is very trainable and willing to please, anyone who has big dog experience, or has dealt with malamutes, akitas, huskies, these sort of breeds, would enjoy working with him and seeing him blossom. He will be an incredibly rewarding dog to have, very loyal and very happy and very affectionate.
IDEAL FAMILY
His ideal family would be adult only, (no visiting children on any regular basis either) active, physically fit and would enjoy working with him. He is a big boy so experience with larger dogs is required, and confident with their own skills. He mixes well with other dogs of all sizes, so a family with another dog or two would be great. He needs a good garden and access to lovely country walks in the viscinity, we are not looking to place him in a very urban area. Sub-urban or country please. Bjorn is a very loving dog, and would enjoy an affectionate family.
Note:
All our dogs go on home trial for two weeks before an adoption. We offer post adoption support and access to a behaviourist and trainer for the life of our dogs.
