Banjo is a sweet older dog who has spent his entire life at various shelters. Unfortunately Banjo tends to be overlooked when people first come to see him because he doesn't get over excited with people he does not know well, he can appear a bit disinterested. He is however a very happy and incredibly affectionate dog once he realises you are investing a bit of time in him. We have found that he will be a lot happier as a one person dog. Banjo has been on hometrial before and we found that he bonded very much to one person but was less tolerant of the partner. We do think he will relish being an only dog too. He loves his walks, his food and his friends. He is ok with most dogs out and about, apart from the odd one or two he doesn't much like, but they are far and few in between.
Around food he is fine but if he has something that he found himself, something that has not been given to him, he won't allow anyone to take that off him again. So best not leave too many items of food out to start! He can be trained even at his age of course and he would learn especially if he gets paid well with special treats for it, but Banjo is an old dog, somewhat set in his ways, he is who he is and we won’t make a Crufts champion out of him! But then we know that whoever adopts him, will just love him for who he is and find him endearing and fun. Banjo is a calm dog, who doesn't really bark, only very occasionally, and who will be totally devoted to his person if you allow him the space to just be. He walks well on the
lead, and wants to spend his years on nice walks and on someone's sofa... People coming into the house will need to be introduced with care so being experienced with dogs and in particular rescues and their little quirks, is important. Once Banjo has found his person, he will make them feel very special and will give them the best smiles! Banjo has had a full vet check, dental, and blood tests. He has a clean bill of health.

IDEAL HOME
A loving retirement home for Banjo with nice walks and a garden. If you like a calm dog with whom you can go on lovely walks, who travels well in the car, has a lot of love to give his person, and you haven’t got a busy household and many visitors but love the company of a furry companion, he would be a lovely boy to consider. He’s no trouble out and about he just loves sniffing the flowers and gets engrossed in his walk but in the home, we feel he may want to protect his person at times. He does like to go on his adventures so it will need to be a somewhat active home. He also needs an experienced home as our street dogs can be complex and therefore require some flexibility and resilience. With Banjo his little worries are most likely going to be about strangers and new people coming into the home.. and the odd bit of food he may find! in every other ways, he is a perfect dog. We don't place senior dogs in homes who have young children, he would also not be suited to a home with visiting children.
If you can offer Banjo a nice home, please send us an enquiry form for this gorgeous old boy.

NOTE: All our dogs go on home trial for two weeks before an adoption. We offer post adoption support and access to a behaviourist and trainer for the life of our dogs.
