Meet Dave: Our Brainy and Energetic Youngster

Dave is highly intelligent and incredibly driven, so he's not your average dog. If you're the kind of person who is keen to embark on an exciting journey with a dog, Dave could be your perfect match. He loves and needs to take part in breed-specific activities and would benefit greatly from taking part in force-free gundog clubs or working with a force-free gundog trainer.

Learning is Dave's passion and he really is a delight to train with. In fact, he will more than likely teach you just as much as you teach him, as our team has found! Dave is absolutely at his best and a great companion when he is appropriately stimulated. When he feels fulfilled, Dave makes for a great companion and one that will be deeply attuned to you.

While Dave may not be a cuddly dog in the traditional sense, you'll share a unique and profound connection with him. He is the type of dog who appreciates his personal space and doesn't enjoy being manhandled. Stroking and fussing aren't really his thing, but he values your respect for his boundaries.

Dave needs to be regularly groomed and has a specific diet which is crucial for his well-being. This diet change has resolved his paw-chewing and skin issues, a testament to how vital proper nutrition is for him. Additionally, his ears may be prone to infection, so learning how to perform cooperative ear cleaning will be essential for the person that adopts him. Our team will of course
support with this and provide step-by-step instructions to help.

Dave's ideal home is one that can provide the specialised care and environment he needs to thrive:

- A Single Person Household: Dave will thrive in a one-to-one environment where someone will provide him with the attention and focus he needs to thrive.

- Experienced Home: Dave's intelligence and drive require an experienced owner who understands the demands of working breeds and is willing to fully commit to his needs.

- No Other Furries: Dave also needs to be the only pet.

- Garden: A spacious garden would be the perfect place for Dave to engage in breed-specific activities and burn off some energy.

- Multiple Visits: Getting to know Dave through multiple visits will be essential to ensure that the fit is right for both you and him. Slow, well-planned introductions will need to be made.

Adopting from LU:
- All our dogs go on home trial for four weeks prior to adoption.
- They are trained with force free, positive reinforcement-based training methods. If you adopt from us, you agree to continue using only these methods and also to train with kindness.
- Every LU dog has been fully checked and assessed by a UK vet and a behaviourist. We offer post-adoption support and access to our behaviourist for the life of our dogs, as well as full rescue back-up.
- Each dog goes to their new home with a fitted harness, collar and flexitag so they can look and feel their best when they start their new lives.
