Rufus is a beautiful boy originally from Spain. He was found in a bin as a puppy. He came to the UK for adoption but sadly his loving home had a baby and it was too much for Rufus to cope with. They did what was best for Rufus, which was to give him a chance to find a home in a suitable environment. This gorgeous boy is great with people but suffers with compulsive behaviour which means that stresses lead to shadow chasing and pacing. He needs a simple life, with little to over stimulate him and a lot of love and understanding from his people.
The kind of home that Rufus would thrive in would be experienced with sensitive dogs or willing to learn, relaxed and accommodating, wanting to make a difference for this sweet boy. Although he goes on walks with other dogs he would be suited to a home as an only pet, and obviously adult only.
Rufus is a very loving dog who adores his walks and people. He walks well on lead and he does find the lead reassuring. He has a lot of anxieties and the best thing for our beautiful boy would be to find people who are attentive to his needs, who are patient and compassionate, as his OCD is quite significant and really needs someone committed to his needs and happiness, with routine very few changes to his day, and not too many visitors in the home.
He has some level of training, his previous home did a lot with him and we
carried on. Rufus can do Sit, Down, Paw, loose lead walking, he has recall but will not want to be off lead. He loves being busy with puzzles and mental games, and he likes to have relaxation time with our team. His previous owner said of him that he is like living with a big cuddly teddy bear when he feels safe, which is so right.
As Rufus finds life challenging, he has a number of medications to help with anxiety and pain management for joints and a cruciate ligament he had surgery on. We always discuss our dogs’ behaviour and medical statuses in every details with adopters and the adoption process is designed to enable adopters to get a real understanding of our dogs’ needs as they explore the idea of rehoming a dog. We would also offer Rufus to go on a medical contract were we would cover costs, should he require any surgery on his hips or his knee although it is unlikely.
All in all this boy is a beautiful sensitive soul with so much love to give, he will be a very rewarding dog to have for a home wanting to help a dog have a happy and relaxing life, which we struggle to offer at the kennels. We know that Rufus needs a home more than most of our dogs so we hope he will find that happy place.
NOTE:
All our dogs go on home trial for two weeks before an adoption. We offer post adoption support for the life of our dogs, helping with behaviour training and all other aspects of having a dog.
We always discus in full details all our dogs’ needs, behaviours, medical status and requirements with our families from first contact. We are passionate about matching our dogs with their perfect homes and vice versa, this is our commitment to our dogs and our families.
