Taz is a wonderful old dog who never had much of a life. He has been kept in a miserable cage since he was a young dog in a yard (see last picture), unable to keep dry in the rain and wet season or sheltered from the heat in the summer. He has finally been allowed to find a real home, and we are all looking forward to seeing him truly happy as he deserves to be.
He has been castrated and had a clean bill of health including comprehensive blood profile but he is an old boy, and has arthritis for which he needs. He needs to have some anti-inflammatory medications and is on a joint care diet by Hills.
Taz has got the most wonderful nature, he hasn't got a bad bone in his body. as far as people go anyway! With dogs he can however be choosy, particularly with uncastrated males but we have seen him get really playful with a little dog who runs along our field fence. Anyone adopting him would however need to be mindful of this and would need to take care. We think he would likely need to be an only dog. For anyone who knows malamutes, he is very typical of his breed. A tough old boy with a lot of love to give to his people, very loyal and loving, choosy with dogs, and loves the outdoors! He will also need someone willing to keep on top of his grooming! This boy has a lot of hair! Due to his arthritis he won’t want to go on very long walks
The most important thing for Taz is a family with large breed experience preferably, willing to offer this wonderful boy a lovely retirement home. He weighs 44kg, walks well on the lead but he would need a strong person if nothing else but to be able to handle him should the need arise.
He needs space and access to a lovely garden. As he has taken a serious dislike to another dog previously, he would not be good off lead in an area with lots of dog and one may need to consider a muzzle depending on how busy the area may be with dogs off lead. But with people, he’s a dream, a real teddy bear.
We would not place Taz with children as it is our policy to place oldies in adult-only homes.
All in all, this is a chilled boy who will bring someone much happiness.
IDEAL HOME:
A home with a garden and access to country side walks, a confident handler with large breed experience. He needs a home as an only dog probably, no small furries, no children living in the home.

Note:
All our dogs go on home trial for two weeks before an adoption. We offer post adoption support and access to a behaviourist and trainer for the life of our dogs.
